2. Working principle
a. photovoltaic power generation
Solar power system must also be equipped with storage batteries except solar cell the implementation of photovoltaic conversion. However, the relatively backward energy storage battery has become constraint of photovoltaic power generation.
Vanadium batteries as energy storage battery of solar power system, it can be adjusted according to the battery's storage capacity which is easy to monitor the charge state. Meanwhile vanadium batteries have characteristic of relatively low cost compared with larger storage space.
b. Wind Power
In order to overcome the unbalance caused by season and different time wind changes, the current wind power generation system firstly stores wind power in the battery, and then through an inverter to achieve grid connection. In terms of the mechanical energy storage, magnetic storage, phase change energy storage and other energy storage technologies, the flow battery energy storage are relaxed to site conditions and distributes in the side which effectively reduces the difference between peak load on the grid.
c. UPS power supply
Electricity system as a public grid, it is connected with thousands of load, however some larger inductive, capacitive, switching power supplies and other loads do not only get power from the grid, and also in turn impact the power grid itself by worsening power grid quality and resulting in distortion. Vanadium battery, as an uninterruptible power supply or emergency power systems, can be used as emergency lights in office buildings and computer backup power for the long-life, low self-discharge advantage.
d. Power peak adjustment
Power peak adjustment means storing surplus electricity when trough, and then transferring it into using electricity when peak. Nation usually adopts TOU system to encourage all types of businesses to stagger resident peak electricity. If companies use high-power vanadium batteries at night (low electricity price) to charge the battery and supply all kinds of device in the day (higher price), it can achieve low price in the entire production process.
e. Power plant peak adjustment
Due to the constraints, at present, various types of hydropower, thermal power stations are rarely take peaking adjustment technology, while few use pumping energy storage. However, the high pumping costs of the energy storage, but conversion of chemical energy and electrical energy does not limited by the first law of thermodynamics with high conversion efficiency.
